Quick Summary

Early clinical research (Russia) — not FDA-approved

Semax is a synthetic seven-amino-acid peptide built from a short fragment of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH 4–7) with a stabilizing Pro-Gly-Pro tail. It has been studied, mainly in Russia, in rat models for effects on brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and experimental stroke. It is not FDA-approved, and independent replication is limited.

Why Researchers Study It

  • ACTH fragments that affect the nervous system without the hormone's adrenal effects
  • BDNF and TrkB signaling, a pathway involved in nerve-cell survival, in rat brain
  • Experimental stroke (cerebral ischemia) models in rats
  • Stabilizing short peptides against breakdown
What It IsSemax is a synthetic peptide of seven amino acids (Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro).

Semax is a synthetic peptide of seven amino acids (Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro). It combines a short fragment of adrenocorticotropic hormone, ACTH(4–7), with a Pro-Gly-Pro tail that slows its breakdown.

It was developed in Russia, where most of its research has been done. It is not approved by the FDA.

Fragments of ACTH were found to affect the nervous system without the hormone's effects on the adrenal glands. Semax is of research interest as a stabilized version of such a fragment.

Rat studies have linked it to changes in brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), a protein involved in nerve-cell survival, and to gene-expression changes after experimental brain ischemia.

How It Works0 established · 2 proposed or under investigation

Established

No mechanism of action has been firmly established for Semax.

Proposed / under investigation

  • Increases BDNF and activation of its receptor TrkB in rat hippocampus
  • Alters expression of immune- and vascular-related genes after cerebral ischemia in rats

  • Cerebral ischemiarat models of stroke
  • Peptide biologystabilized ACTH fragments

Limitations

  • Not approved by the FDA or the European Medicines Agency
  • FDA has stated it lacks sufficient information to know whether Semax would cause harm in humans
  • Evidence is concentrated in a few research groups, with little independent replication

Frequently Asked Questions

What form is this product supplied in?

Peptides and research compounds ship as lyophilized (freeze-dried) powder in a sealed glass vial. The fill amount printed on the product page and label is the total content of the vial.

Is this product for human use?

No. All Renuvia Labs products are sold strictly for laboratory research use. They are not for human or animal consumption and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

Where can I find the Certificate of Analysis?

When a batch has a Certificate of Analysis, it is linked in the Testing & COA section of the product page and listed in the COA library, searchable by product, SKU or batch number.

Do you offer volume pricing?

Yes. Per-vial pricing drops automatically at 2, 3 and 5 vials of the same product; the current tiers are shown next to the price. For larger quantities, see our wholesale program.

How much is shipping?

U.S. orders of $150 or more ship free. Orders below that ship at a flat rate, shown in the cart.
